Week of December 11th, 2017

Reminders:

1). We will be going to 8:30 a.m. Mass on Wednesday, December 13th; this will be followed by our Trimester One Awards Ceremony. 

2). Children’s Vendor Sale will take place on Thursday, December 14th.

 

5th Grade
This week the students will begin their study of New Spain. They will be exploring when, where, and why the Spanish colonized North America. They will also be analyzing how the Spanish tried to maintain control of North America. Lastly, the class will be discussing the introduction of slavery into the Americas.

12/11: Create sentences for the vocabulary words on page 144. Make sure that your illustrations are completed. The class will be playing Pick the Pic and the Sentence Game tomorrow.

STUDY! Vocabulary Quiz- Friday: This week the students will have a quiz on the vocabulary words from “New Spain”. Please be sure to review the words every night and make sure you can put each word into a well developed 5th grade sentence!

12/12: STUDY!

12/13: Finish picking out important facts for “Building New Spain” on pages 144-145.

   Journal Topic- Rough draft of your letter to King Charles is due tomorrow.

12/15: The class will be taking a quiz on the vocabulary words from “New Spain”.

6th Grade
This week the students will begin their study of ancient Egypt. They will begin by analyzing the geography/location of Egypt. They will be discussing the importance of the Nile River, and how it impacted the development of ancient Egypt. Lastly, the students will be analyzing how Egypt became united.

12/11: Chapter 4 Assessment- pages 95-96 #s 1-10. This assignment will be collected and graded!

12/14: Finish the worksheet on “Ancient Egypt and Kush: Introducing Time and Place”. Use pages 97-99 to help you.

7th Grade
This week the students will begin their study of the beginnings of slavery in the Americas. They will be discussing how European diseases wiped out much of the Native American population, causing colonists to look for a new labor force. They will also be discussing how/why the Europeans enslaved millions of Africans and sent them to work on their colonies. Lastly, the students will be analyzing how slaves lived in the Americas.

12/11: STUDY! Quiz- Friday: “The Beginnings of Slavery in the Americas” on pages 58-61. 10 Dart Game questions are due on Thursday.
12/12: Read and Outline: “The Slave Trade” on pages 59-61.

12/13: STUDY! 10 Dart Game questions are due tomorrow.

12/14: The class will be playing the Dart Game today.

12/15: The class will be taking a quiz on “The Beginnings of Slavery in the Americas”.

8th Grade
This week the class will be focusing on the growth of cities and how both immigrants and native-born Americans moved to growing urban areas in record numbers in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The students will also be analyzing how new technology and ideas helped cities change and adapt to this rapid urban growth.

12/11: Read and Outline: “Growth of Urban Areas” on pages 642-643.

STUDY! Jeopardy- Thursday and Test- Friday: “A New Wave of Immigration” and “The Growth of Cities” on pages 636-645. 20 Jeopardy questions are due on Thursday.

12/12:Read and Outline: “Changing Cities” on pages 643-645.
12/13: STUDY! Jeopardy questions are due tomorrow.

12/14: The class will be playing Jeopard today.

12/15: The class will be taking a test on “A New Wave of Immigration” and “The Growth of Cities”.

Religion
Over the next few weeks the class will be focusing on the seasons of Advent and Christmas. They will be working with a partner to create an Advent/Christmas board game. The students will be creating questions based on the important aspects of these two important seasons. The students will be following a detailed rubric that was given out in class.

12/11: Read and Highlight: pages 162-164.

12/12: Complete page 166.
