Week of April April 23rd- April 27th

Reminders:

1). Vocation Awareness will take place on Monday, April 23rd from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.

2). Spring Pictures-Wednesday, April 25th

3). There is no school on Friday, April 27th; it is a Professional Development Day. 

 

Grade 5- This week, the students will be taking a “Reading Comprehension” Quiz; next, they will be identifying “Perfect Tense Verbs”.  The students will be receiving a handout describing present perfect tense, past perfect tense, and future perfect tense. We will be discussing how to use each tense in writing and how to identify each as well.  They will be reviewing a “Perfect Tense Chart” and completing one with a partner as well.  The students will be receiving a list of irregular verbs to aide in this topic. 

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

Monday, April 23rd- 1). Finish completing the “Reading Comprehension Worksheet”: “A Good Night”-nonfiction passage. 

Tuesday, April 24th- 1). Create a “Perfect Tense Chart” as we did in class; use ten different verbs!

Wednesday, April 25th- 1). Ready New York CCLS book pages 275-276: “Perfect Verb Tenses”. 

Thursday, April 26th- 1).Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required.

Grade 6- This week, the students will be playing “Basketball Jeopardy” to review “Unit 6 Spelling/Vocabulary” words; they will be taking an exam on this unit as well. Next, the students will continue to work in their  Common Core Enriched Edition Vocabulary Workshop books.  They will be working on a review based on Units 4-6; with a partner; this review will consist of “Vocabulary for Comprehension”, “Two-Word Completions”, and “Idioms”. 

*If you did not hand in the (page 78) “Writing: Words in Action” writing prompt, please have it in by Monday, April 23rd.*

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

Monday, April 23rd- 1). Make sure your 20 Jeopardy questions based on Unit 6 words from class are completed; we will be playing “Basketball Jeopardy” tomorrow!

Tuesday, April 24th- 1). Study for “Unit 6 Spelling/Vocabulary” Exam! 

Wednesday, April 25th- 1). Complete a written reading log. 

Thursday, April 26th- 1).Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required.

Grade 7- This week, the students will be identifying misplaced and dangling modifiers. They will be watching a video one each, reviewing a detailed handout on the topics, and working in their Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts books on these topics as well. We will be practicing writing sentences to correct misplaced or dangling modifiers and steps to take to make sure the sentences are detailed and grammatically correct.  They will be creating a quiz with a partner; they will then be switching quizzes with one another, too. 

Religion- This week, we are being visited by two separate vocational groups. The students will also be taking an open book Religion exam on Chapter 7 on Tuesday. On Wednesday, the students will be meeting with Mrs. Antonino for their “Theology of the Body” class.  On Thursday, the students will begin focusing on Chapter 8: Jesus, the Promised Messiah”. Our group discussion will be: “Do I Keep My Promises?”

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

Monday, April 23rd- 1). Open book Chapter 7 Religion Exam will be tomorrow! You may use your outline, questions from class, and We Believe book. 2). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required. 3). Finish the Chapter 7-Religion Jeopardy questions from class today. 

Tuesday, April 24th- 1). “Misplaced Modifiers” worksheet; be sure it is completed from class. Just remember; the sentence has to make sense!

Wednesday, April 25th- 1). “Dangling Modifiers” worksheet; be sure it is completed from class. Remember to ask “who?”, and add that in the sentence!

Thursday, April 26th- 1). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required. 

*You will be working with a partner and working on a “Misplaced Modifier and Dangling Modifier” worksheet; this will be graded as a quiz.*

Upcoming Exam: Open book Religion Exam-Chapter 7-Tuesday, April 24th.
