Week of April 30th, 2018

Reminders:

1). The 6th and 8th NYS Mathematics Exam will be taking place on Tuesday, May 1st and Wednesday, May 2nd.

 

5th Grade

  This week the class will be continue their study of the English colonies, and they will be focusing on the settlements of the South.  They will be analyzing when and why people colonized Maryland, the Carolinas, and Georgia.  They will be describing the achievements of George Calvert, Eliza Lucas Pinckney, and James Oglethorpe.  Lastly, they will be exploring how the people in the Southern Colonies earned a living.

4/30: STUDY! Jeopardy- Thursday and Test- Friday: “Settlement of the South” on pages 232-239.  20 Jeopardy questions are due on Thursday.

5/1: Finish outlining “Virginia Grows and Changes” on pages 238-238.

5/2: STUDY! Jeopardy questions are due tomorrow.

5/3: The class will be playing Jeopardy today.

STUDY!

5/4: The class will be taking a test on “Settlements of the South”.

Study the location of the 13 Colonies.  Use the map on page 238.

6th Grade

  This week the students will continue their study of Ancient Greece.  They will begin by exploring the geography of Greece and discuss how geography influenced the lives of the early Greeks.  They will also be examining the Minoan and Mycenaean civilizations.  Lastly, the students will be discussing how Greek city-states created the idea of citizenship.

4/30: STUDY! Jeopardy- Thursday and Test- Friday: “Rise of Greek Civilization” on page 174-182. 20 Jeopardy questions are due on Thursday.

5/1: Finish outlining “The Greek City-State” on pages 179-182.

5/3: The class will be playing Jeopardy today.

5/4: The class will be taking a test on “Rise of Greek Civilization”.

 

7th Grade

The class will continue their study of the American Revolution.  They will be focusing on the major battles of the war and why France and Spain decided to help the Patriots fight the British.  Lastly, the students will be exploring how the winter at Valley Forge texted the strength of the Patriot troops.

4/27: STUDY! Quiz- Tuesday: “Declaring Independence” on pages 118-112.  Ten Dart Game questions are due on Monday.

4/30: STUDY! 

5/1: The class will be taking a quiz on “Declaring Independence”.

Worksheet- ” Character of a Leader and a People”- Read, highlight, and create three discussion questions.

Make a list of 10 virtues that a good leader must have.

Research George Washington.

5/2: Create riddles for the Key Terms and People on page 126.  Make sure that your illustrations are completed! The class will be playing Pick the Pic and the Riddle Game tomorrow.

 

8th Grade

 This week the students will be discussing the economic, political, and social impacts of the Great Depression.  They will be analyzing the factors that led up to the Stock Market Crash and how Franklin D. Roosevelt responded to deepening economic woes.  Lastly, the class will be exploring the effects the depression had on family, communities, and Europe.

4/27: Sharpen Up Vocabulary- pages 157-160. Create meanings and illustrations.

4/30: Read and Outline- Sharpen Up pages 157-158. Answer all the “Quick Review” questions.

STUDY! Jeopardy- Monday and Test- Tuesday: “The Roaring Twenties and The Great Depression”.  20 Jeopardy questions are due on Monday.

5/1: STUDY!

5/2: Bring in research on the causes and effects of the Great depression. STUDY!

5/3: Sharpen Up- Read, highlight, take notes, and answer Quick Review questions- page 160

5/7: The class will be taking a test on “The Roaring Twenties  and The Great Depression” Sharpen Up pages 152-160.

Religion

This week the students will be exploring the Israelites journey to the promised land.  They will be discussing the Ten Commandments and the new covenant.  They will be examining all the ways in which God helped the Israelites reach freedom.

4/30:   STUDY! Test- Thursday: “A Free People” on pages 108-118

 Read and highlight pages 112-113. Then answer answer the questions below:

  1. Why were the Israelites annoyed with Moses?  2. Why was Moses annoyed with the Israelites?  3. What was the difference between the meeting tent and the ark of the covenant? 4. Why did Moses wear a veil?  5. Why could the Israelites resume their journey with confidence?

5/3: The class will be taking a test on “A Free People”.
