Week of April 24th-April 28th

Reminders:

1). Classes Resume-Monday, April 24th.

2). Math State Exams for Grades 6 and 8 will be taking place on Tuesday, May 2nd-Thursday, May 4th.

3). State of the Academy Meeting will be taking place on Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at 7:00 p.m. All children whose parents attend will receive TWO NUT DAY CARDS. The class with the highest percentage of parent participation rate will win an ice cream party. 

Grade 5- This week, the students will be working in the Common Core Enriched Edition Vocabulary Workshop Books.  We will be focusing on Unit 5; the students will be reading as a class-“Baucis and Philemon” (Ancient Myth) and develop meanings of the words in context; we will then be reviewing each word’s part of speech, definition, synonyms, and antonyms; the students will then be writing sentences and illustrations with each word.  They will be engaging in the Picture and Sentence Games as a review; next, they will be working with a group to write a creative play or story using at least five of the Unit 5 words in their play; they will be sharing their creative writing with the class.

Monday, April 24th 1). Make sure sentences and illustrations based on Unit 5 words are completed. 2). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required today.

Tuesday, April 25th 1). Complete a written reading log. 2). Complete pages 50-51 in the Common Core Enriched Edition Vocabulary Workshop ( Match the Meaning, Synonyms, and Antonyms).

Wednesday, April 26th- 1). Complete a written reading log.

Thursday, April 27th 1). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required. 2). Make sure story or play is completed to be presented tomorrow!

Grade 6- *Have “Hatchet” Exam signed and corrected for Monday, April 24th!

Wednesday, April 26th- 1). Create 20 Jeopardy Questions for Friday’s game! 2). They can be handed in on Friday. 3). Be sure Unit 4 pages 57-59 (not the writing part on 58) are completed!

Thursday, April 27th 1). Type or write final draft of “Writing: Words in Action”-#2 on page 58. 2). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required.

Grade 7- This week, the students will be working in the Common Core Enriched Edition Vocabulary Workshop Books.  We will be focusing on Unit 4; the students will be reading as a class-“The Elephant Man is Dead” (Obituary) and develop meanings of the words in context; we will then be reviewing each word’s part of speech, definition, synonyms, and antonyms; the students will then be writing sentences and illustrations with each word.  They will be engaging in the Picture and Sentence Games as a review; next, they will be working with a group to write a creative play or story using at least five of the Unit 5 words in their play; they will be sharing their creative writing with the class.

Religion– This week, the students will be focusing on Chapter 7: “The Promise of Salvation”.  We will be discussing together: “Who or what helps me in difficult times?” The students will be reading and discussing how God reaches out to help humankind and how He offers his people the hope of salvation.  We will be discussing how God promises a Messiah and how the promise of a Messiah comes in fulfillment.

Tuesday, April 25th 1). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required. 2). Complete pages 65-top of 67 in the Common Core Enriched Edition Vocabulary Workshop ( Match the Meaning, Synonyms, and Antonyms).
