Week of April 23rd, 2018

Reminders:

1). Vocation Awareness will take place on Monday, April 23rd from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.

2). Spring Pictures-Wednesday, April 25th

3). There is no school on Friday, April 27th; it is a Professional Development Day. 

 

5th Grade

  This week the class will be continue their study of the English colonies, and they will be focusing on the settlements of the South.  They will be analyzing when and why people colonized Maryland, the Carolinas, and Georgia.  They will be describing the achievements of George Calvert, Eliza Lucas Pinckney, and James Oglethorpe.  Lastly, they will be exploring how the people in the Southern Colonies earned a living.

4/24: Create riddles and sentences for the vocabulary words on page 232.  Makes sure that your illustrations are completed! The class will be playing Pick the Pic and the Sentence and Riddle Games tomorrow.

4/25: Worksheet: “Maryland” use pages 232-234 to help you answer the questions. 

4/26: Read and Outline: “Georgia” on pages 236-237. Due on Monday

6th Grade

  This week the students will begin their study of Ancient Greece.  They will begin by exploring the geography of Greece and discuss how geography influenced the lives of the early Greeks.  They will also be examining the Minoan and Mycenaean civilizations.  Lastly, the students will be discussing how Greek city-states created the idea of citizenship.

4/23: Worksheet- “Introducing Place and Time of Ancient Greece”

4/24: Create riddles for the vocabulary words on pages 174-182.  Makes sure that your illustrations are completed! The class will be playing Pick the Pic and the Riddle Game tomorrow.

4/26: Read and Outline: “An Island Civilization” and “A Mainland Civilization” on pages 176-178. This assignment is due on Monday.

7th Grade

  This week the students will be continuing their study of the American Revolution.  They will be discussing how Thomas Paine’s Common Sense led many colonists to support independence.  They will also be exploring how the colonists had to choose sides when independence was declared.  Lastly, the students will be analyzing how the Declaration of Independence did not address the rights of all the colonists. 

4/20: STUDY! Quiz- Monday

4/23: The class will be taking a quiz on “The Revolution Begins”.

4/24: Create riddles for the Key Terms and People on page 118. Makes sure that your illustrations are completed! The class will be playing Pick the Pic and the Riddle Game tomorrow.

4/25: Read and Outline: “Independence is Declared” on pages 119-120.

4/26: STUDY! Quiz- Tuesday: “Independence is Declared” on pages 118-121. 10 Dart Game questions are due on Monday!

4/27: STUDY! Finish creating Dart Game questions.

8th Grade

  This week the class will be discussing the economic, social, and political development of America in the period between World War I and World War II.  They will be analyzing the important events that took place in the Roaring Twenties-including the Republican Decade, the United States in world political affairs, the changes that took place in the American workplace, the problems started to form in American society, and the Stock Market crash.

4/20: Read-  “Establishing Peace” on pages 735-739.  Then answer the questions on the worksheet. This assignment will be collected and graded!

4/23: Create illustrations for the vocabulary words from pages 152-156 in the Sharpen Up workbook. Makes sure that your illustrations are completed! The class will be playing Pick the Pic  tomorrow.

4/25: Sharpen Up– page 154- Read, outline, and answer Quick Review questions 3 and 4.

4/26: Makes sure you have finished reading, outlining, pages 155-156. All the Quick Review questions from pages 152-156 must be answered. 

4/27: Vocabulary- Sharpen Up- pages 157-160.  Use context clues from the workbook and your textbook to create meanings.  Then create riddles for each term.  The class will be playing Pick the Pic and the Riddle Game on Monday.

Religion

This week the students will be exploring the Israelites journey to the promised land.  They will be discussing the Ten Commandments and the new covenant.  They will be examining all the ways in which God helped the Israelites reach freedom.

4/23: Tet- signed and corrected

4/26: Choose one of the Ten Commandments, and explain it.   Then write an explanation of how in following that commandment you can show your love for God and others. This assignment must be typed and is due on Monday.
