Week of April 16th-April 20th

Reminders:

1). Monday, April 16th- The Museum of Natural History Trip is today! 

2). Trimester Two Awards Ceremony will be taking place on Wednesday, April 18th, after the 8:30 a.m. Mass.

3). We will be having a $2.00 Dress Down Day on Friday, April 20th in observance of April being Autism Awareness month. 

 

Grade 5- This week, the students will be playing “Basketball Jeopardy” to review “Unit 6 Spelling/Vocabulary” words; they will be taking an exam on this unit as well. Next, the students will be working in their Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts book.  They will be using context clues to help determine the meanings of unfamiliar words.  They will also be using domain-specific knowledge to determine meanings of content-or subject-area words and phrases.

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

Monday, April 16th- 1). The Museum of Natural History Trip is today! There is no written homework, but be sure to review “Unit 6 Spelling/Vocabulary” words for “Basketball Jeopardy” tomorrow!

Tuesday, April 17th- 1). Study for “Unit 6 Spelling/Vocabulary” Exam! 

Wednesday, April 18th- 1). Complete a written reading log. 

Thursday, April 19th- 1). Complete Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts book pages 114-115: “From Furs to Five-Dollar Bills”; be sure to complete the “Close Reading” on page 114.

Upcoming Exam: Wednesday, April 11th, “Unit 6 Spelling/Vocabulary” Exam

 

Grade 6- This week, the students will be working in their Common Core Enriched Edition Vocabulary Workshop books.  They will be reading: “The Fine Art of War: WWI Propaganda Images” <Textbook Entry> and developing meanings for some of the words from the unit.  We will then be reviewing each word’s part of speech, definition, synonyms, antonyms, and how they are used within sentences. The students will be working in their books to better understand the words and will be focusing on a writing prompt in which they must include at least three of the unit words.  They will be working on this in class, editing and revising their work as well.  They must explain why the images from the entry we read as a class are effective in persuading Americans to support the war effort. They must use details from the passage to support their claim.

Tuesday, April 17th- 1). Make sure your riddles and illustrations are completed from class today based on “Unit 6 Vocabulary” words.

Wednesday, April 18th- 1). Complete pages 75- the top of 77 in your Common Core Enriched Edition Vocabulary Workshop book: “Choosing the Right Word”, “Synonyms”, and “Antonyms”; remember if you are stuck on the synonyms or antonyms, and the word they provide is not from the book-look the word up!! =)

Thursday, April 19th- 1). Complete pages 77-79 in your Common Core Enriched Edition Vocabulary Workshop book: “Completing the Sentence” and “Vocabulary in Context”; do not complete the “Writing: Words in Action”.

Grade 7- This week, the students will be taking quiz on “Coordinate Adjectives”. Next, they will be working in their Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts book.  They will be developing an understanding of the structure and elements of drama, including acts, scenes, characterization, dialogue, and stage directions.  They will also be analyzing the ways in which a drama’s structure helps an author organize ideas and convey meaning. They will also be evaluating the effectiveness of an argument by determining whether its claims are supported by relevant and sufficient evidence and assessing whether the author uses sound reasoning in making a claim. They will be taking a “Reading Comprehension” Quiz on Friday, too. 

Religion- This week, the students will continue focusing on Chapter 7.  We will be discussing the Immaculate Conception, the Annunciation, and The Magnificat; the students will also be working on the chapter review with a partner, and creating 20 Jeopardy questions in class based on this chapter. 

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

Monday, April 16th- 1). The Museum of Natural History Trip is today!  Review for your quiz on “Coordinate Adjectives” for tomorrow; be sure to know the two rules to determine if the adjectives are coordinate; the quiz will be similar to the handout you had for homework last week. =)

Tuesday, April 17th- 1). Complete Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts book pages 148-149: The Diary of Anne Frank, Act I Scene 2; be sure to complete the “Close Reading” on page 148. Do not forget to answer the short response question first, and then include THREE details in your answer. 

Wednesday, April 18th- 1). Complete a written reading log. 2). Get “Coordinate Adjectives” Quiz signed, and make corrections. The entire sentence MUST be written out with the corrections. 

Thursday, April 19th- 1). Be sure questions from the handout based on pages 80-81 are completed from class.
