Wednesday’s incident

April 14, 2017

Dear Parents of Ave Maria Catholic Academy , As you are aware an incident occurred near the school shortly before dismissal on Wednesday, April 12, 2017. My sincere apologizes for the late notification regarding this situation. The school was notified shortly before dismissal that there was an armed man near the school premises. The teachers and staff were notified , and Miss Janice was informed not to let anyone exit or enter the building . There was police present on the school block before the school was notified of the events occurring . The school was in contact with the police at hand and the school was told not to go on lock down . The sergeant present came to the school during dismissal and instructed everyone to dismiss from the right entrance of the parking lot. The man was not present near the school at dismissal time. Please be assured that the children would have never been released if the New York City Police Department sergeant present did not say it was safe to do so. The safety of your children is our number one concern at Ave Maria Catholic Academy . When we return from Easter break a notice will go home pertaining to emergency situations. Thank you to the Ave Maria Catholic Academy staff for your assistance in ensuring the safety of the students.

I hope you and your families have a very blessed Easter.

Miss McManus
