Tentative Homework/Tests/Quizzes/Projects for the Week of February 6th – 10th.

Grade 3:

This week, in math the students will finish up our chapter on Addition.   In Chapter 2 the students will:  add 2-, 3-, and 4-digit numbers including money, with and without regrouping, use related facts to find missing addends, use rounding to estimate sums, solve problems with the strategy of using simpler numbers.

Chapter 3 Subtraction will be introduced toward the end of the week.  In Chapter 3, the students will learn four meanings of subtraction, subtract 2-3- and 4- digit numbers, including money, with and without regrouping, estimate differences, regroup hundreds and dollars and thousands as hundreds, regroup with zeros, and choose the operation to solve a problem.

This week, in science the students will continue to focus on Chapter 16 Work and Machines.  Simple machines allow people to change the direction or size of a force.  The students will investigate to find out what work is, read and learn about the different types of work and how to measure it, read and learn about different types of simple machines and how they are used.

This week, in religion, the children will continue to learn about the parts of the Mass and how we are sent forth from Mass to serve God and other people.

We have started working a little extra on script handwriting in the classroom. We have been working on lower case letters with an undercurve stroke: i, t, u, w, e, l, b, h, f, k, r, s, j, and p. The students are encouraged to practice script at home.  I will send home some optional practice worksheets.  If you would like, you can have your child hand them back in to me to check over.

Math-     Problem Solving Application:  Mixed Review Workbook page 26.   Chapter 2 Addition Test moved to Wednesday, 2/8.

Science–  Simple Machines Project due Monday, 2/13.  Chapter 16 Vocabulary Quiz Wednesday, 2/8.

Religion- Chapter 17 We Worship at Mass Test Tuesday, 2/14.  Study words to know, highlighted material on pages 196-203, and pages 205-206.

 

Tuesday, February 7th :

Math–   Review for Chapter 2 Addition Test tomorrow.  Look over workbook pages 13-26, 175-176, and 238.  Optional Review-  Textbook pages 94 and 96.

Science- Simple Machines Project due Monday, 2/13.  Chapter 16 Vocabulary Quiz tomorrow.

Religion- Chapter 17 We Worship at Mass Test Tuesday, 2/14.  Study words to know, highlighted material on pages 196-203, and pages 205-206.

Grade 4:

This week, in math the students will write fractions and mixed numbers in standard form and as word names, estimate fractions, identify and write equivalent fractions, find common factors and GCF of two or more numbers, write fractions in lowest terms, compare and order fractions and mixed numbers, and use logical reasoning to solve problems.

This week, in science the students will focus on Chapter 15 Making and Using Electricity.  Electric currents and magnets can be used for many purposes.  The students will investigate how a light bulb works, read and learn about electricity and how electric charges move, investigate how electricity makes a magnet, read and learn how magnetism and electricity are related, investigate how energy changes forms, read and learn about sources of electricity, investigate how you use energy, and read and learn how people use energy resources.
