Tentative Homework/Tests/Quizzes/Projects for the Week of April 9th-13th.

Reminders:

1). School resumes on Monday, April 9th.

2). The NYS ELA Exam takes place this week for Grade 4; the first day of this exam will be Wednesday, April 11th, and the following day, Thursday, April 12th, will be the final testing day. The make-up day for this exam will be on Friday, April 13th and Monday, April 16th. 

3). Trimester Two Awards Ceremony has not been scheduled yet; students and parents will be informed as soon as the date is set.

 

3rd Grade Week at a Glance:

Religion:

In Chapter 11, the students will gain a deeper understanding of the parish as a Catholic community and the various ways people serve in their parish.

Math:

In Chapter 7, the students will collect, organize, display, compare data, and solve problems by using graphs

The 3rd Grade will also work in the Ready New York CCLS book on Lessons 24-26.  In Lesson 24, the students will interpret data displayed in a multi-unit, multi-category bar graph to solve one-step addition and subtraction problems.  Students will also interpret data displayed in a multi-unit, multi-category picture graph to solve two-step addition and subtraction problems.  In Lesson 25, the students will draw scaled pictographs and bar graphs.  In Lesson 26, the students will use a ruler to measure objects to the nearest ½ in and ¼ inch, display measurement data in a line plot, and answer questions about data in a line plot. 

Science:

 In Chapter 1, The students will investigate to find out how living and nonliving things are different, identify and compare characteristics of living and nonliving things, describe the parts of animal and plant cells, observe the rate of seed growth, and read and learn how living things grow and change.

4th Grade Week at a Glance:

Math:

In Chapter 9, the students will add and subtract fractions with like denominators and unlike denominators, rename improper fractions, add and subtract mixed numbers, find multiples, common multiples, and the least common multiple (LCM) of numbers, express probability as a fraction, find fractional parts of numbers, and solve problems using simpler numbers.

The 4th Grade will also work in the Ready New York CCLS book on Unit 4:  Numbers and Operations—Fractions.  In this unit, students will understand equivalent fractions, compare fractions, understand fraction addition and subtraction, add and subtract fractions, add and subtract mixed numbers, understand fraction multiplication, multiply fractions, fractions as tenths and hundredths, relate decimals and fractions, and compare decimals.

Science:

In Chapter 15, the students will investigate how to light a light bulb, demonstrate how to construct a simple circuit, explain static and current electricity, recognize how electricity moves in circuits, investigate how electricity makes a magnet, compare the properties of magnets with those of electromagnets, and recognize the usefulness of magnets, electromagnets, generators, and motors.
