Ms. Amuso – Week of 11/21/16

Grade 5-

This week, the students will be working in their “Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts” books. They will be reading different types of texts and comparing and contrasting characters in drama. They will be using details in a drama to describe characters and identifying a characters’ qualities, motivations, and feelings. Lastly, the students will describe how characters change from the beginning and the end and use details to compare and contrast characters’ motivations, feelings, and behaviors.

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

Monday, November 21st 1). Complete a reading log. 2). Complete “Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts” book pages 56-57: “Cornelia and Her Jewels”; make sure you complete the “Close Reading” on the side of the page, too.

Tuesday, November 22nd 1). Complete a reading log.

Wednesday, November 23rd 1). No homework today!

Thursday, November 24th 1). Have a Happy and Healthy Thanksgiving!

Upcoming Quiz/Exam: Reading Comprehension Exam: Friday, December 2nd.

Grade 6-

This week, the students will be working in their “Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts” books. The students will be analyzing key ideas in a text; specifically, they will be analyzing how an author develops a key individual, event, or idea in informational text through facts, examples, and anecdotes. They will also be identifying the differences between facts, examples, and anecdotes in informational text.

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

Monday, November 21st 1). Complete a reading log. 2). Complete “Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts” book pages 30-31: “The Search for El Dorado”; make sure you complete the “Close Reading” on the side of the page, too.

Tuesday, November 22nd 1). Complete a reading log.

Wednesday, November 23rd 1). No homework today!

Thursday, November 24th- 1). Have a Happy and Healthy Thanksgiving!

Grade 7-

This week, the students will be working in their “Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts” books. They will be analyzing interactions in a text; specifically, they will be reading different types of texts and identifying relationships between individuals, events, and ideas in informational text and how they influence other events and ideas.

Religion-

This week, the students will be practicing for the Christmas Show during Religion Class.

Monday, November 21st- 1). Complete a reading log. 2). Complete “Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts” book pages 30-31: “Eli Whitney and the Cotton Gin”; complete the “Close Reading” on the side of the page, too.

Tuesday, November 22nd- 1). Complete a reading log.

Thursday, November 24th- 1). Have a Healthy and Happy Thanksgiving!

Grade 8-

This week, the students will finish their children’s books; they will also be working in their “Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts” books. They will be analyzing dialogue and incidents in stories and drama. They will be analyzing how specific lines of dialogue within a plot of a story or drama propel the action, reveal aspects of a character, and provoke a decision.

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

Monday, November 21st 1). Read for 20 minutes; no written reading log is required. 2). Complete “Ready New York CCLS English Language Arts” book pages 64-68: “from The Time Machine” and “From Don Quixote” and “from The Comical History of Don Quixote”, and complete the “Close Reading” on the side page 64, too.

Tuesday, November 22nd 1). Complete a reading log.

Wednesday, November 23rd 1). No homework today!

Thursday, November 24th 1). Have a Healthy and Happy Thanksgiving!
