Week of May 8th-May 12th

Reminders:

Monday, May 8th and May 9th-Book Fair

Grade 5- This week, the students will continue working in their Ready New York CCLS  English Language Arts book and working on theme. Next, they will be identifying interjections.  They will be reviewing different interjections and when to use them: (oops) to show a mistake, (oh) to show shock or another thought, (hey) to show a thought or discovery, (yay) to show happiness or excitement, and lastly, (whew) to show relief.  They will be writing an interjection to complete various sentences, choosing the purpose of the underlined interjection, and choosing the example that is punctuated correctly.

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

Monday, May 8th 1). Ready New York CCLS  English Language Arts pages 74-76. 2). Make sure pages 72-73 are completed from class!

Tuesday, May 9th 1). Complete a written reading log.  2). Write ten sentences using interjections! Highlight or underline the interjection.

Wednesday, May 10th- 1). Complete a written reading log.

Thursday, May 11th 1). Review different interjections; quiz tomorrow! 2). Complete a written reading log.

Grade 6- This week, the students will be watching a PowerPoint Presentation on Denotation and Connotation. Next, they will be working in their Ready New York CCLS  English Language Arts book and with a partner they will be reading various sentences and identifying the connotations as positive or negative.  A word’s denotation is its dictionary definition, and a word’s connotation is the feeling that people associate with the word; there are positive and negative connotations;  Lastly, the students will be writing a story in class using positive and negative connotations; this will be graded as a quiz grade; the students will be sharing their stories with the class.

Tentative Homework Schedule:

Monday, May 8th 1). Complete a written reading log.

Tuesday, May 9th 1). Complete a written reading log. 2). Get Positive and Negative Connotations Quiz signed, and make corrections!

Wednesday, May 10th- 1). Complete a written reading log.

Thursday, May 11th 1). Tomorrow you will be presenting your stories/plays that you typed in class today; make sure the connotations are labeled (positive/negative). 2). Read for 20 minutes today; no written reading log is required.

 

Grade 7- This week, the students will be working in their Ready New York CCLS  English Language Arts book and finishing working on determining point of view. Next they will be identifying misplaced and dangling modifiers.  The students will be rewriting sentences to correct the misplaced and dangling modifiers. They will also be working on choosing the answer that best corrects the misplaced modifier one each sentence, and also choosing the revision that best corrects the dangling modifier in each sentence.

Religion– This week, the students will be taking an exam on Chapter 7: “The Promise of Salvation”.  Next, they will begin working on Chapter 8: “Jesus, the Promised Messiah”. We will be reading about how Jesus Christ is the promised Messiah and how he fulfills the hopes of Israel.

Monday, May 8th 1). Be sure Ready New York CCLS  English Language Arts book pages 106-107 are completed from class. 2). Complete pages 108-110. 3). Get Unit 5 Spelling/Vocabulary Exam signed, and make corrections.

Tuesday, May 9th 1). Complete a written reading log. 2). Get Chapter 7 Religion Exam signed and corrected.

Wednesday, May 10th- 1). Complete a written reading log.

Thursday, May 11th 1). Complete a reading log.

Upcoming Quiz-Misplaced and Dangling Modifiers-Monday,  May 15th

 

 

Grade 8- This week, the students continuing reviewing Active and Passive Voice and taking a quiz on the topic.  They will then be introduced to Verb Moods: Indicative, Imperative, Interrogative, Conditional, and Subjunctive Mood.  They will be identifying each type and writing sentences using each.  They will be playing Jeopardy on this topic on Friday, May 12th.

Monday, May 8th 1). Study for Active and Passive Voice quiz!

Tuesday, May 9th 1). No homework today.

Wednesday, May 10th- 1). Make sure Verb Mood Activity is completed from class today. 2). Get your Active and Passive Voice Quiz signed, and make corrections.

Thursday, May 11th 1). Study for Verb Mood Jeopardy!
