Grade 4: Week of September 16 – September 20

This week, the fourth grade will…

  • Begin Vocabulary Unit 1 using our Sadlier workbook.
  • Begin Math Chapter 1 Place Value, Addition, and Subtraction to One Million.
  • Continue with Social Studies Chapter 1 The Geography of New York.
  • Review and prepare for Religion Chapter 1 Quiz. 
  • Complete the novel Tales of the Fourth Grade Nothing, and begin working on Cereal Box Book Report.
  • Begin learning how to monitor comprehension.

Tests/Quizzes:

1.)  Religion:  Chapter 1 Quiz Tuesday, 9/17.

2.)  Grammar:  Four Kinds of Sentences Quiz Tuesday, 9/17.

3.)  Social Studies:  Chapter 1 Lessons 1 & 2 and Elevation Map Test Wednesday, 9/18.

4.)  Vocabulary:  Unit 1 Quiz Friday, 9/20.


 

Tentative Homework:

Monday:

1.)  Religion-  Chapter 1 Quiz tomorrow. Review pages 28 and 30.   (Quiz will be very similar to this page)

 

2.)  Grammar-  Four Kinds of Sentences Quiz tomorrow.  Review worksheets and pages 8-11 in Grammar Workshop book.

 

3.)  Social Studies- Chapter 1 Lessons 1-2 and know how to interpret an Elevation Map. Test on Wednesday, 9/18.  Review Notes, Vocabulary Cards, and Worksheets. (find in social studies notebook)  Briefly review Textbook pages 8-19 and 22-29.

 

4.)  Vocabulary-  Complete the Picture that represents the word and the Create a sentence using the word sections on each of the five Word Maps that we made today in school.  Unit 1 Quiz Friday (celebrity, counsel, demonstrate, drowsy, essential, haul, pledge, sincere, stampede, suitable)

 

5.)  Reading- Please send in an empty cereal box by Wednesday.  We will be using it for a Tales of the Fourth Grade Nothing Project.

 

Tuesday:

1.)  Social Studies- Chapter 1 Lessons 1-2 and know how to interpret an Elevation Map. Test tomorrow. Review Notes, Vocabulary Cards, and Worksheets.  Briefly review Textbook pages  8-19 and 22-29.

3.) Reading- Please send in an empty cereal box by tomorrow.  We will be using it for a Tales of the Fourth Grade Nothing Project.

 

4.)  Math- Practice Reading 4-Digit Numbers with an adult.  Log into Think Central and Complete Chapter 1  Show What you Know assignment.  (Usernames and passwords are in the front of their Homework notebooks)

 

Wednesday:

1.) Vocabulary-  Completing the Sentence page 12 in Vocabulary Workshop.  Unit 1 Quiz Friday (celebrity, counsel, demonstrate, drowsy, essential, haul, pledge, sincere, stampede, suitable)  Students need to be familiar with the definitions, parts of speech, synonyms and antonyms, what each word might look like if drawn, and how to use each word in a sentence. 

2.)  Math-  Complete Think Central Lesson 1.1 assignment.

3.)  Reading-  Complete Monitor Comprehension Worksheet.

 

 

Thursday:

1.)  Vocabulary- Study for Vocabulary Unit 1 Quiz tomorrow. Log onto Sadlier Connect and play the games to help you study.  Students need to be familiar with the definitions, parts of speech, synonyms and antonyms, what each word might look like if drawn, and how to use each word in a sentence. 

 

2.)  Math-  Complete Think Central Lesson 1.2.

3.)  Reading-  Complete Monitor Comprehension Worksheet
