Grade 3: Week of 9/9-9/13

This week, the third grade will…

  • Begin Spelling: Unit 1, Short Vowels (happen, lettuce, basket, winter, sister, monster, supper, subject, lesson, spelling, napkin, collar, traffic, suggest, puppet)
  • Begin our first Reading Unit, Realism vs. Fantasy, using the Reading Street textbook and additional comprehension activities.
  • Begin Grammar: Unit 1, Sentences with Lessons 1-4. 
  • Continue working on Social Studies: Unit 1, Chapter 1: Communities Are People and exploring the vocabulary within the chapter.
  • Begin Religion, Chapter 1: God Sends Us His Own Son.
  • Be assessed on current math levels using an End of Year Grade 2 Assessment and a Grade 3 Prerequisite Skills Packet.
  • Briefly review place value, addition, and subtraction using Go Math Reteach and Enrich worksheets.

Tests/quizzes this week:

  • Spelling Unit 1 Quiz- Friday, 9/13

Homework for the week:

Monday:

ELA-

  • Spelling- Write our Spelling Unit 1 words in alphabetical order.
  • Grammar- Complete the Lesson 1 Activity on page 10.
  • Reading- Read and complete the Context Clues reading comprehension worksheet (page 5).

Math- Complete #1-10 (only) of Prerequisite Skills packet.


Tuesday:

ELA-

  • Spelling- Write sentences for Spelling Words #1-5 (use the ABC order list).
  • Grammar- Complete the Lesson 2 activity on page 14.
  • Reading- Complete the reading comprehension worksheet on Character (page 6).

Math- Complete #11-20 (only) of Prerequisite Skills packet.

*Bring in your decorated Writer’s Notebook by tomorrow, 9/11!*


Wednesday:

ELA-

  • Spelling- Write sentences for Spelling Words #6-10 (use the ABC order list).
  • Grammar- Complete the Lesson 3 Proofreading activity on page 18.
  • Reading- Complete the Realism vs. Fantasy worksheet (pg. 8)

Math- Complete the Prerequisite Skills packet #31-40.


Thursday:

ELA- 

  • Spelling- Write our Spelling Unit 1 words 3x each and study for your first Spelling Quiz.
  • Grammar- Complete the Fill-in-the-Blank with Subjects activity on page 22.
  • Handwriting- Complete the two handwriting activities given by Mrs. Sindone by Thursday, 9/19.

Math- Complete Lesson 1.6 worksheet: Break Apart to Add.


Friday:

  • Handwriting- Complete the two handwriting activities given by Mrs. Sindone by Thursday, 9/19.
  • Be sure to check all Specials webpages to remind you of weekly homework assignments.
