Grade 3: Week of 9/24-9/28

This week, the Third Grade will be continuing and/or beginning the following:

  • Beginning Spelling Unit 2: using, getting, easiest, swimming, heavier, greatest, pleased, emptied, leaving, worried, strangest, freezing, funniest, angrier, shopped (Challenge Words: included, occurred, supplying, scarier, happiest)
  • Continuing with Informational Text Reading Comprehension 
  • Beginning our second short story from Reading Street
  • Continuing with Grammar Unit 1: Sentences (compound sentences and their coordinating conjunctions, complex sentences and their subordinating conjunctions, run-on sentences)
  • Continuing with Chapter 3: Understand Multiplication, Lessons 3.5, 3.6, and 3.7
  • Continuing with Religion, Chapter 2: Jesus Teaches Us About God’s Love
  • Beginning Religion, Chapter 3: Christ Will Come Again
  • Beginning Science, Chapter 1: Types of Living Things

Monday:

ELA:

  1. Spelling Unit 2: Complete ABC Order in your ELA notebook.
  2. Reading– Read and complete Informational Text: “Holidays” and answer questions #1-9 in complete sentences.
  3. Grammar (Sadlier)- Complete page 30 Proofreading.

Math: Complete Lesson 3.5 pgs. 169-170.

Social Studies: Study for our Chapter 1 Test tomorrow, 9/25.


Tuesday:

Math: Online assignment (Animated Math Models 3.5)

ELA:

  1. Spelling– Write a sentence for Spelling words #1-5 in your ELA notebook.
  2. Reading- Study/Prepare for our Reading Comprehension Test: Informational Text tomorrow, 9/26.
  3. Grammar (NY Ready Book)- Complete Lessons 14 and 15: Coordinating Conjunctions & Simple and Compound Sentences on pages 436-439.

Religion: Begin studying for Chapter 2 Test on Thursday, 9/27.


Wednesday:

ELA:

  1. Spelling– Write sentences for Spelling words #11-15 in your ELA notebook.
  2. Grammar (NY Ready Book)- Complete Lesson 16: Subordinating Conjunctions and Complex Sentences on pages 440-441.

Math: Complete Lesson 3.6 pages 171-174.

Religion: Study for Chapter 2 Test tomorrow, 9/27.


Thursday:

Math: Online Assignment: Personal Math Trainer, Lesson 3.6

ELA:

  1. Spelling- Study for our Spelling Quiz, tomorrow, 9/28. Two of the five challenge words will be bonus questions on the quiz.
  2. Grammar (Sadlier)- Complete pages 34-35

Science: ** Due Tuesday, 10/2 **

Please use index cards to create Science vocabulary flash cards for our Chapter 1 vocabulary.Write the vocabulary word on the blank side of the index card. Then, write the definition on the lined side. Use the following definitions:

  • Life Cycle– The changes that happen to an organism during its life.
  • Metamorphosis– A series of changes in appearance that some organisms go through.
  • Larva– The stage of complete metamorphosis after and organism hatches from its egg.
  • Pupa– The stage of complete metamorphosis where an organism is wrapped in a cocoon or a chrysalis.
  • Inherit– To have a trait passed on from parents.

 


Friday:

Follow the guidelines on the Writer’s Notebook handout in your child’s red folder and have him/her decorate his/her notebook. All notebooks are due by Wednesday, 10/3. Happy decorating!
