Grade 3: Week of 4/27-5/1

This week, the third grade will…

  • Continue Vocabulary Workshop Unit 13 and Grammar Unit 6: Capitalization, Punctuation and Spelling.
  • Continue analyzing how the characters’ actions move the story forward while reading Peter Pan.
  • Continue Chapter 8: Understanding Fractions in Math. 
  • Begin Chapter 10: The Church Prays in Religion.
  • Continue learning about Ecosystems in Science.

*Please write your name, date and subject on the top of all of your work. Save all paperwork from our Country Studies and bring back to school when we return.

Please submit classwork to jfrey@olgcahb.org by 6 pm on the dates listed below. You can submit assignments by sending images of your workbook/writing or typing into the body of the email if preferred (when possible). If an assignment is posted to Google Classroom, you can also mark your answers and submit directly.

Show and Tell – Schedule on Google Classroom

  • Vocabulary: Word Associations, page 137. Send an image of your work.
  • Grammar: Lesson 43: Abbreviations – Read through the rules for abbreviations on page 196. Complete exercises on pages 196-197. Send an image of your work.
  • Reading: Peter Pan – Bring your answers to the questions from last week on Ch. 10-11 to discuss on Zoom and revise together.
  • Math: Complete Think Central activity on Lesson 8.1.
  • Religion: Begin Ch. 10: The Church Prays. Read Jesus Teaches His Followers How to Pray on pages 119-121. Highlight or underline key details. Complete the questions and send an image of your work.
  • Science: Review pages 178-183 on Ecosystems (we started this chapter in class awhile ago, so you’re reading again to refresh your memory). Answer questions on page 183 and send an image of your work.

Tuesday 4/28:

Show and Tell

  • Vocabulary: Write your own sample sentences for 3 words from Unit 13 (on pages 132-133). Draw quick illustrations based on your sentences. Send an image of your work.
  • Grammar: Proofreading, page 198. Send an image of your work.
  • Reading: Peter Pan – Using your writing about your own Neverland from last week, type your entry into a post on our class Padlet page. Draw an illustration and include it in a separate post. Please put your name on both of your posts.
  • Math: Complete Think Central activity on Lesson 8.2.
  • Religion: Read We Can Pray with Others or By Ourselves on pages 122-123. Highlight or underline key details. Complete the questions and send an image of your work.
  • Science: Watch video on the Amazon Rainforest ecosystem (video is about halfway down the page): Link on Google Classroom. Then, view the slides and read the background information on the Rainforest throughout the page.

Wednesday 4/29:

  • Vocabulary: Write your own sample sentences for 3 more words from Unit 13 (on pages 132-133). Draw quick illustrations based on your sentences. Send an image of your work. Study for tomorrow’s quiz.
  • Grammar: Lesson 44: Read through the Capitalization rules for Book Titles. Complete exercises on pages 200–201. Send an image of your work.
  • Reading: Peter Pan – Read Ch. 12 and answer the following questions:
  1. Was the pirate attack expected or was it a surprise?
  2. What was the character trait of Peter’s that really irritated Hook?
  3. How did the pirates treat Wendy?
  4. Why did the lost boys leave their cave to celebrate? Did Peter go with them?
  5. How did Hook intend to harm Peter?
  • Send an image of your work.
  • Math: Complete Think Central activity on Lesson 8.3.
  • Religion: Read about Saint Catherine of Siena and complete activity: Link on Google Classroom
  • Science: Read pages 184-189 on Energy Roles, Food Chains and Food Webs. Answer questions on page 189. Send an image of your work.

Thursday 4/30:

  • Reading: Peter Pan – Read Ch. 13 and answer the following comprehension questions:

1. What did Tink do to help Peter? What happened to her afterward?

2. Why did Tink risk her life for Peter?

3. What was it that Tink asked for to revive her?

  • Send an image of your work.
  • Math: Practice 8.1-8.3 questions based on Think Central results together on Zoom.
  • Religion: Read There are Different Kinds of Prayer on pages 124-125. Highlight or underline key details. Complete We Respond and send an image of your work.
  • Science: Read pages 190-197 on Ecosystem Changes. Answer questions on page 197. Send an image of your work.
