Grade 3: Week of 3/30-4/3

This week, the third grade will…

  • Begin Vocabulary Workshop Unit 12 and complete Grammar Unit 5: Pronouns.
  • Write to Support an Opinion based on events in Peter Pan in Reading.
  • Begin Chapter 8: Understanding Fractions in Math. 
  • Continue Independent Country Study Research Project in Social Studies.
  • Continue Chapter 9: The Church Teaches Us in Religion.

*Please write your name, date and subject on the top of all of your work. Save all your paperwork and bring back to school when we return. This week, all work should be submitted via email to jfrey@olgcahb.org by 6 pm on the dates listed below. You can submit assignments by sending images of your work or typing into the body of the email if preferred (when possible). If you’re typing your answers, please also print a hard copy to bring back to school.

News/Reminders:

  • Multiplication and Division games are posted in the Materials section of Google Classroom. All students should continue working on memorizing math facts in preparation for the final exam.

Monday 3/30:

  • Vocabulary: Begin Unit 12: Read pages 118-119. Fill-in pages 120-121 and send images of your work.
  • Grammar: Lesson 40: Contractions with Pronouns, complete proofreading exercise on page 182. Send an image of your work.
  • Reading: Peter Pan – Listen to Voice Thread on Ch. 9 activities: Leave 1 voice comment to answer any 2 of the following questions:

-which sentence clearly tells us the author’s opinion?

-what are some of the reasons that the author gives to support their opinion? Read the

exact sentences.

-which sentence tells us the author’s conclusion?

  • Math: Meet for Zoom practice at 1:30 pm. We will not work on a new lesson yet, we are just meeting to practice using Zoom as a class which we will use for Math at least once a week if possible.
  • Social Studies: Continue work on Country Study Research Project.
  • Religion: Read about Saint Patrick and complete activity: Link on Google Classroom

Tuesday 3/31:

  • Vocabulary: Pick 3 words from the list on pages 120-121. Write a sample sentence and draw a quick illustration for 3 different words. Send an image of your work.
  • Grammar: Lesson 40: Contractions with Pronouns, complete writing exercise on page 183. We’re also going to begin using the Grammar Workshop E-Book to review. Login info on Google Classroom.
  • Once logged in, select Unit 5 from the list on the left. Go to the Practice Quizzes for Lesson 39 and 40. Take quizzes and send your scores. Also try the games for Lesson 39: Matching Challenge and Lesson 40: Hangman if you need extra practice.
  • Reading: Listen to your classmates’ comments on yesterday’s Voice Thread on Peter Pan so that you understand the process of writing to support your opinion. Then, following the model paragraph, write about your own opinion based on the prompt: on Google Classroom.
  • Fill out the graphic organizer in the Assignments section of Google Classroom (print out the page or answer the same questions from the graphic organizer on lined paper). Keep in mind that we will put this information together into a paragraph that supports your opinion tomorrow. Look back at the sample paragraph that we read yesterday if any of the steps on the graphic organizer are unclear. Send an image of your work.
  • Math: *We are tentatively planning to meet on Zoom at 1:30 pm if Monday’s practice goes well, otherwise I will record on Voice Thread. Begin Ch. 8: Understand Fractions in Go Math (Volume 2). Work on pages 441-442 together. Cut out flashcards on the following pages.
  • Social Studies: Continue work on Country Study Research Project.
  • Religion: Read The Holy Spirit Guides the Church, pages 112-113. Highlight or underline Key Details. Complete We Respond.

Wednesday 4/1:

  • Vocabulary: Match the Meaning, page 122. Send an image of your work.
  • Grammar: Complete #21-28 from the Review on page 185. Send an image of your work.
  • Reading:  Put together the information from your graphic organizer into a paragraph that supports your opinion with reasons. Remember to:
  • Restate the question and state your opinion clearly.
  • Support your opinion with reasons.
  • Clearly state your conclusion.

Assignment sheet is in Google Classroom Assignments for reference (you don’t need to print). Paragraphs can be written on your own lined paper. Send an image of your work.

  • Math: Complete 8.1 Equal Parts of a Whole, pages 443-444 on your own. Send images of your work.
  • Social Studies: Continue work on Country Study Research Project. Also, we were planning to celebrate Poisson d’avril, which we read about during our country study of France. See info and videos on Google Classroom.
  • Please draw a fish to put on our class Padlet board to celebrate Poisson d’avril. Make the fish colorful if you have the time and supplies. If you just have a pencil, that’s fine too! You can draw any kind of fish that you want. Reference images are on Google Classroom.
  • Take a picture of your work and drag the picture onto our Padlet board: Link on Google Classroom.
  • Comment with your own name on your picture so I know that it’s yours (type a comment and then click the arrow to save). Tomorrow, go back to our page and either ‘like’ or leave a nice comment on at least 1 classmate’s fish (or more than one classmate’s fish). I will check the board on Friday (you don’t need to send anything).
  • Religion: Read about Saint Joseph and complete activity.

Thursday 4/2:

  • Vocabulary: Synonyms/Antonyms, page 123. Send an image of your work.
  • Grammar: We have now finished Unit 5 and will begin reviewing each lesson for the upcoming test (the test will be late next week or the following week) with the Grammar Workshop E-Book. Once logged in, select Unit 5 from the list on the left. Go to the Practice Quizzes for Lesson 34 and 35. Take quizzes and send your scores. Also try the games for Lesson 34 and Lesson 35 if you need extra practice.
  • Reading: Gather together all notes and comprehension questions that you’ve done at home (Ch. 6-9). Watch Voice Thread on Peter Pan Ch. 8-9 questions and make any changes that are needed in your own notes. Keep these notes together for the upcoming quiz on Ch. 6-9.
  • Math: Complete 8.1 Reteach/Enrich on Think Central.
  • Social Studies: Continue work on Country Study Research Project.
  • Religion: Read The Church Continues to Teach the True Message of Jesus, pages 114-115. Highlight or underline key details. Complete We Respond.

Friday 4/3:

  • Vocabulary: Completing the Sentence, page 124. Send an image of your work.
  • Grammar: On the Grammar Workshop E-Book: Select Unit 5 from the list on the left. Go to the Practice Quizzes for Lesson 36 and 37. Take practice quizzes and send your scores. Also try the games for Lesson 36 and Lesson 37 if you need extra practice.
  • Reading: Peter Pan – Review notes from Ch. 6-9 for the quiz on Monday.
  • Math: Complete 8.1 Equal Parts, pages 445-446. Send images of your work.
  • Social Studies: Complete work on Country Study Research Project. Please set aside to turn in when we return to school.
  • Religion: Complete Project Disciple activities on pages 116-117. Send images of your work.
