Grade 3: Week of 3/16-3/20

This week, the third grade will…

  • Continue Vocabulary Workshop and review Grammar concepts from Unit 5: Pronouns.
  • Continue Peter Pan in Reading.
  • Review Chapter 6: Understanding Division in preparation for the upcoming test in Math.       
  • Continue our Country Study of France in Social Studies.
  • Continue Chapter 8: The Church Has Four Marks in Religion.

*Please write your name, date and subject on the top of all of your work. Save all your paperwork and bring back to school when we return. This week, all work should be submitted via email to jfrey@olgcahb.org by 6 pm on the dates listed below. You can submit assignments by sending images of your work or typing into the body of the email if preferred (when possible). If you’re typing your answers, please also print a hard copy to bring back to school.

Monday 3/16:

  • Vocabulary: Begin Unit 11: Read pages 108-109. Fill-in pages 110-111 and send an image of these pages via email.
  • Grammar: Pronoun Review: Reread Lesson 35: Pronoun-Verb Agreement rules and examples on page 160. Write 5 sentences of your own that are modeled after the examples on pages 160-161, each including 1 subject pronoun and 1 present-tense verb. Send an image of these sentences via email.
  • Reading:  Peter Pan – Reread Chapter 6 (pages 41-49) and take notes on the new characters. Fold your paper into thirds or use 3 separate pieces of paper to make the following categories: Lost Boys, Indians and Pirates. When you see a new character’s name, write their name down in either the Lost Boys, Indians or Pirates list. Also write one detail about each character. Send an image of your work via email.
  • Math: Complete Assignment for Lessons 6.2 on Think Central.
  • Social Studies: Continue France Country Study – While you’re at home, you do not need to print out the articles we read on France (I will have copies for you when we return to school). For now, you can just read them online. Take all notes on lined paper and keep them in one place so that we can attach them to your research packets when we go back to school. Send images of all your French notes via email on Friday, 3/20.                                                                                           
  • Read the section titled Fun and Play. Find 4 facts about fun and play in France and write them down in your notes. Also write the title of this reading so your notes are organized.
  • Religion: The Pope and Bishops are the Successors of the Apostles, read pages 98-99. Underline or highlight key details.

Tuesday 3/17:

  • Vocabulary: Pick 3 words from the list on pages 110-111. Just like we normally do on whiteboards, write a sample sentence and draw a quick illustration for 3 different words. Send an image of your work via email.
  • Grammar: Reread Lesson 36: Object Pronouns rules and examples on page 164. Write 3 sentences of your own that include 1 action verb and 1 object pronoun that follows the action verb. Circle the verb and underline the object pronoun. Send an image of your work via email.
  • Reading: Peter Pan – Answer comprehension questions (below) on Ch. 6 (pages 41-49). Send an image of your work via email.

  • Math: Complete Assignment for Lesson 6.3 on Think Central.
  • Social Studies: France Country Study – Read section titled Geography. Write at least 6 facts in your notes. Also write the title of this reading so your notes are organized.
  • Religion: The Church is One and Holy, read pages 100-101. Underline or highlight key details.

Wednesday 3/18:

  • Vocabulary: Match the Meaning on page 112. Send an image of these pages via email.
  • Grammar: Reread Lesson 37: Using I and Me rules and examples on page 168. Write 3 sentences of your own, each modeled after the different uses of I and me (each type is described in the Learn section of the page). Send an image of your work via email.
  • Reading: Peter Pan – Read Ch. 7 (pages 50-60). Write 2-3 of the most important events in this chapter. Send an image of your work via email.
  • Math: Complete Assignment for Lesson 6.4 on Think Central.
  • Social Studies: France Country Study – Read section titled Religion. Write at least 3 facts in your notes. Also write the title of this reading so your notes are organized.
  • Religion: Ch. 8: The Church is Catholic and Apostolic, read pages 102-103. Underline or highlight key details.

Thursday 3/19:

  • Vocabulary: Synonyms/Antonyms, page 113. Send an image of these pages via email.
  • Reading: Peter Pan – Answer the following comprehension questions (below) about Ch. 7 (pages 41-49). Send an image of your work via email.

1. Why was Tootles shooting Wendy with an arrow?

2. How did Wendy survive?

3. Based on what has happened in the book so far, who do you think is the most important character? Which character is taking action that moves the story forward? Explain your thinking.

  • Math: Complete Assignment for Lessons 6.5 on Think Central.
  • Social Studies: Read Sights of Paris. Write the names of the different attractions in your notes and one sentence telling what they are. Also write the title of this reading so your notes are organized. Then, look at the images of the stained glass in Notre-Dame Cathedral on the website: https://www.notredamedeparis.fr/decouvrir/architecture/les-vitraux/ (click where it says “See”). Draw a sketch of your favorite image in your notes.
  • Religion: Show What You Know, complete pages 104-105. Send images of these pages via email.

Friday 3/20:

  • Vocabulary: Completing the Sentence, page 114. Send an image of this page via email.
  • Grammar: Reread Lesson 38: Possessive Pronouns rules and examples on page 172. Write 5 sentences of your own including 1 possessive pronoun per sentence (my, your, his, her, its, our, their). Send an image of your work via email.
  • Reading: Peter Pan – Read Ch. 8 (pages 61-68). Write 2-3 of the most important events in this chapter. Send an image of your work via email.
  • Math: Complete Assignment for Lesson 6.5 on Think Central.
  • Social Studies: Read France’s Landscapes. Write 3 facts in your notes. Also write the title of this reading so your notes are organized. Send an image of your French notes from the week via email.
  • Religion: Complete Chapter 8 Test on page 106 (this test is open book but will be graded). Send an image of your work via email.
