Grade 3: Week of 1/7-1/11

This week, the third grade will…

  • Begin Vocabulary Unit 6.
  • Continue working with Main Idea & Key Details using the NY Ready Book & NYS Test Prep Close Reading Passages.
  • Continue with Math Chapter 5, Lesson 5.2 and the Mid-Chapter Checkpoint.
  • Read and explore the January 2019 Scholastic News Edition, “My Grandpa Changed America,” a tribute to Martin Luther King Jr as well as complete a plethora of related activities using both the magazine and Brain Pop resources.
  • Continue with Religion Chapter 5: We Learn About The Early Church.

Tests/Quizzes this week:

  • Grammar Unit 3: Verbs Test- Tuesday, 1/8
  • Vocabulary Unit 6 Quiz- Friday, 1/11

Homework for the week:

Monday:

ELA-

  • Vocabulary- Complete page 60, Match the Meaning.
  • Grammar- Study for Unit 3 Test on Verbs
  • Reading-
    1. (NY Ready) Read page 26 and complete #1 (graphic orgaizer) on page 27.
    2. Reading Log due Friday, 1/11. Be sure to read at least 20 minutes every night.

Math-  Complete Lesson 5.2, Algebra, pages 271-272.


Tuesday:

ELA-

  • Vocabulary- Complete page 61, Synonyms & Antonyms.
  • Reading- (NY Ready) Read page 28 and answer #1 on page 39 and #3 (write your response on page 31).

Math- Log onto ThinkCentral and complete the posted assignment.


Wednesday:

ELA-

  • Grammar- Complete Lesson 26, page 122.
  • Vocabulary- Complete page 62, Fill in the Blank.
  • Reading- Answer reading comprehension questions #7, 8, and 9 on pages 36-37. Be sure to write in complete sentences.

Math- Log onto ThinkCentral and complete the posted assignment.


Thursday:

ELA-

  • Vocabulary- Study for your Unit 6 Quiz. Visit sadlierconnect.com to play the games that will help you study!
  • Grammar- Complete Lesson 27, page 126.
  • Reading- Reading Logs due tomorrow.

Math- Log onto ThinkCentral and complete the posted assignment.


Friday:

  • *Sign & correct (on a separate sheet of paper) the Unit 3: Verbs Grammar Test by Monday, January,14th if you have not already done so.*
  • Begin reviewing for our Chapter 5 Math Quiz and Chapter 5 Religion Test. The math quiz, which will be given on Tuesday, 1/15, will focus on solving for the unknown number. Study the Mid-Chapter Checkpoint as well as the worksheets that have been sent home for Lessons 5.1 & 5.2. The math book can stay home until Tuesday, 1/15. For Religion, begin reviewing the highlighted information in Chapter 5, the activities we completed throughout the chapter, and the Chapter 5 Review on page 78. The test will be given on Wednesday, 1/16. The religion book can stay home until Wednesday, 1/16.
