Important Dates:

  • There will be a Rosary Rally on Monday, October 7th, in the church; parents are welcome to attend!
  • Students may wear a blue shirt on Monday, October 7th, in honor of World Day of Bullying Prevention!
  • The first band session will be taking place on Tuesday, October 8th.
  • There will be no school on Monday, October 14th-Columbus Day.
  • School will resume on Tuesday, October 15th; The TerraNova exam will begin this day.

This week, the fourth grade will…

  • Begin Spelling:  Unit 1 Lesson 3 Short and Long i words from our Journey’s Textbooks.. (skill, crime, grind, tonight, brick, flight, live, chill, delight, build, ditch, decide, witness, wind, district, inch sigh, fright, remind, split)
  • Begin to identify and write Compound and Complex Sentences.
  • Wrap up Math Chapter 1 Place Value, Addition, and Subtraction to One Million. Begin Chapter 2 Multiplying by 1-Digit Numbers.
  • Wrap up Storyworks nonfiction article Our Beautiful Town Is Gone. Be prepared for a Reading Comprehension Quiz.
  • Begin Journey’s Unit 1 Lesson 3.  In this lesson, our focus is: How are books and libraries important to people and communities?  We will read the Anchor Test My Librarian Is a Camel by Margriet Ruurs and the Informational Text From Idea to Book by Kim Becker.  Target Skills: Cause and Effect and Interpret Visuals   Target Strategy: Visualize
  • Begin Religion:  Chapter 2 Jesus Leads Us to Happiness.

This week, the fourth grade will…

  • Begin Vocabulary Unit 2 Using our Sadlier Workbook. 
  • Continue Math Chapter 1 Place Value, Addition, and Subtraction to One Million.
  • Complete the novel Tales of the Fourth Grade Nothing, and finish working on Cereal Box Book Report.
  • Wrap up Journey’s Unit 1 Lesson 1 and prepare for Reading Comprehension Test.  Review Target Skills: Point of View and Flashback   and  Target Strategy: Summarize.  
  • Begin Rosary Project in preparation for the Rosary Rally on 10/7.  Students should bring in their own Rosary Beads on Monday if they have them.
  • Begin Storyworks nonfiction article Our Beautiful Town Is Gone.

2.)   Reading: Because of Winn Dixie Reading Comprehension Test Friday, 10/4.Be familiar with the story elements, point of view, flashback, and summarizing.

3.)   Vocabulary:  Unit 2 Quiz Friday, 10/4. Be familiar with the definitions, synonyms and antonyms, using each word in a sentence, identifying the part of speech for each word, and pictures/illustrations that represent the word.  (Study Word Maps)

4.)  Math:  Chapter 1 Test Tuesday, 10/8.  Optional Think Central Reviews will be posted.

  • Begin Spelling Unit 1 Lesson 1:  Short a and Long a words  from Our Journey’s textbooks.
  • Continue Grammar Unit 1:  Focus on Lessons 2 Complete Subjects and Predicates, Lesson 3 Simple Subjects, and Lesson 4 Simple Predicates. 
  • Continue Math Chapter 1 Place Value, Addition, and Subtraction to One Million.
  • Continue with Social Studies Chapter 1 The Geography of New York.
  • Complete the novel Tales of the Fourth Grade Nothing, and begin working on Cereal Box Book Report.
