For the Week of 9/10

                                                                       Welcome Back to a New School Year!

This year Our Lady of Grace is implementing a new math program called Go-Math. I am in the process of learning the numerous aspects of the program. Of what I have learned, both students and parents will have the opportunity to use tutorial aspects from the website to follow along with the daily lesson and to have the ability to down load videos named “ Coach” to help explain the topic.  As I learn more regarding the new program I will pass on the information.

                                                                                                   Eighth Grade

The (TACHS) Test will be given on November 3, 2018. The goal is to cover every aspect of the test using both the Go-Math book, as well as a number of preparation books I have, dedicated to the TACHS test. I will indicate every topic on the test to the students on Monday. I will also be giving any quiz or test directly from prior tests online or TACHS preparation books. I will not cover a topic that was never used on the TACHS test, before the test thereby, concentrating on this important  test .

Monday: On Monday, we will cover the topics on the TACHS test and start with the topic of exponents. We will cover the additions, subtraction, multiplication, and division of exponents.  For homework on Monday, do page 33 in the workbook.

Tuesday: On Tuesday, we will continue working exponents and incorporate  exponents to the zero power. For homework do page 34 in the workbook.  

Wednesday: On Wednesday we will be working on exponents combined with word problems. For homework do page 37.

Thursday: On Thursday we will be working on exponents and assigned values for variables. For homework do page 38.

Friday: On Friday we will work on negative exponents. There is no homework. There will be a quiz on Wednesday, September 19 on the above topics.

 

                                                                                                Seventh Grade

Monday: On Monday we will begin working on adding positive and negative integers. For homework do page seven in the Go-Math workbook.

Tuesday: On Tuesday, we will continue working on Monday’s lesson, but with word problems. For homework do page eight.

Wednesday: On Wednesday, we will be working on adding integers with the same sign. For homework do page nine.

Thursday: On Thursday, we will incorporate negative integers and number lines. For homework do page 10.

Friday: On Friday, we will review for a quiz on Tuesday. There is no homework.

 

                                                                                                Sixth Grade

Monday: On Monday, we will be working on adding positive

and negative integers. I will assign five problems to determine their understanding of the topic when we review on Tuesday.

Tuesday: On Tuesday, we will continue working on adding positive and negative integers. For homework I will have the students create their own five problems.

Wednesday: On Wednesday, we will be working on the same topic, but also include word problems. For homework I will assign five word problems.

Thursday: On Thursday, we will begin adding two negative integers. For homework, the students are to create five problems involving adding negative integers.

Friday: On Friday, I will introduce the concept of (LCO). This stands for Leave, Change, and Opposite when dealing with subtracting negative and positive exponents. There is no homework. We will incorporate the Go-math book on Friday as a review.

 

                                                                                                   Fifth Grade:

Monday: On Monday, we will continue working on adding decimals. I will assign five problems involving at least three numbers containing decimals for homework.

Tuesday: On Tuesday, we will be working on subtracting with decimals. I will assign five problems that deal with subtracting decimals.

Wednesday: On Wednesday, we will review both adding and subtracting with decimals to determine if the class is ready to move on to dividing and multiplying with decimals. For homework, the students are to create six problems in which the student will create three adding and three subtracting with decimal problems.

Thursday: On Thursday, we will begin working on multiplying with decimals. For homework, I will assign five problems.

Friday: On Friday, we will review adding, subtracting, and multiplying with decimals. There is no homework. We will incorporate the Go-Math book on Friday as a review.
