Grade 5– This week, the students will continue reading Holes; they will be reading and responding to Chapters 7-11.  They will be summarizing some of the chapters, answering various comprehension questions, and even creating their own questions with a partner/group.  For Chapters 8 and 9, they will be reading independently in class and answering questions to test their comprehension skills.  They will be taking on the role of Stanley Yelnats and writing a continuation letter to his mother from Camp Green Lake.  Lastly, the students will be identifying vocabulary words from Chapters 12-20.  They will be working with a partner and using context clues to develop meanings for each of the words; we will then review and come up with a class definition. 

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

*Make sure your illustrations and sentences are completed-Chapters 7/9-10 words from Holes.*

Monday, February 5th- 1). Be sure your summary from class based on Chapter 7 are completed. 

Tuesday, February 6th– 1). Quiz today on Chapters 8 and 9; you will be reading the chapters independently and answering multiple choice and short response questions. 2). There is no written homework tonight. 

Wednesday, February 7th– 1). Make sure your letter from class is completed today; check your grammar, capitalization, spelling, and punctuation.  At least three vocabulary words must be incorporated in your writing.

Thursday, February 8th– 1). Make sure Chapters 10 and 11 are completed; finish creating the five short answer questions with answers; remember to focus on asking inferential and critical thinking questions as discussed in class.

Upcoming Quiz– Tuesday, February 6th- Chapters 8 and 9 (Review Vocabulary from Chapters 1-10; I will be asking some questions =).

 

Grade 6– This week, the students will continue reading Heaven is for Real; they will be reading and responding independently to Chapter 6 to test reading comprehension skills; there will be some vocabulary questions as well.  For Chapters 7 and 8, the students will be completing a sequential order chart- incorporating important events from the chapters.  They will also be working on a writing activity in which they will use their inferencing skills to compose a letter from Todd to God and using their critical thinking skills to write a response from God.  The students will be ending the week focusing on Chapter 10 and discussing why nurses and doctors are amazed by Colton’s actions.

Monday, February 5th- 1). Quiz today on Chapter 6; you will be reading the chapter independently and answering multiple choice and short response questions/vocabulary questions. 2). There is no written homework tonight.

Tuesday, February 6th– 1). Make sure your sequential chart is completed based on Chapters 7 and 8; remember to include only important parts. 2). Get Chapter 6 Quiz: Heaven is for Real, signed, and make corrections.

Wednesday, February 7th– 1). Finish your letters from class today; check your grammar, capitalization, spelling, and punctuation.  At least three vocabulary words (total) must be incorporated in the letters.

Thursday, February 8th- 1). No homework tonight. 

Upcoming Quiz– Monday, February 5th- Chapters 6 (You will be reading the chapter in class.) Review the vocabulary words from Chapters 1-6 as well!

 

Grade 7- This week, the students will continue reading The Outsiders; they will independently finish reading Chapter 4 and answering reading comprehension questions.  Next, they will be working with a group and analyzing Robert Frost’s poem- “Nothing Gold Can Stay”.  They will be breaking down each line of the poem and answering questions to better understand the meaning.  We will be discussing this as a class.  The students will be reading and responding to Chapters 5 and 6-discussing how the fire affected Ponyboy and Johnny.

Religion– This week, the students will continue focusing on Chapter 6-“Holy Spirit, Helper and Guide”. We will be discussing how the Holy Spirit is always present with the Father and the Son and how the Holy Spirit is active in God’s plan of salvation. They will also be discussing Pentecost and the Apostle Peter. Lastly, the students will be reading about Blessed Pope John Paul II, working on the chapter review, and creating Jeopardy questions.

Tentative Homework/Testing Schedule:

Monday, February 5th– 1). Make sure illustrations and sentences are completed today from Chapter 4; tomorrow you will be reading part of the chapter and answering comprehension questions. Study the vocabulary from chapters 1-4 

Tuesday, February 6th– 1). Quiz today on part of Chapter 4- The Outsiders. No homework tonight.

Wednesday, February 7th– 1). Finish questions from Religion!

Thursday, February 8th– 1). Finish reading Chapter 5; summarize the chapter; be sure your sentences from class are completed (Chapters 5 and 6 vocabulary words).

Upcoming Quiz- Tuesday, February 5th- (Part of Chapter 4)- . I will be asking some vocabulary questions- review ALL words from Chapters 1-4.

Grade 8– This week, the students will continue reading We Beat the Street; they will independently finish reading Chapter 5 and answering reading comprehension questions.  Next, they will be reading and responding to Chapters 5-8 focusing on George’s passion to become a dentist, how Sampson was affected by his friend’s death, and analyzing George and Sampson’s messages to readers.

Monday, February 5th- 1). Quiz today on part of Chapter 5; you will be reading the chapter independently and answering multiple choice and short response questions/vocabulary. 2). There is no written homework tonight.

Tuesday, February 6th- 1). Make sure Chapter 6 is completed; summarize, and answer the comprehension questions given in class. 

Wednesday, February 7th- Congratulations on receiving your class rings! Enjoy “Dave and Buster’s”-no homework today!

Thursday, February 8th- 1). Make sure your sentences or symbols are finished from class today.
