  • Identify the author’s specific and vivid word choices in Peter Pan and consider how these words engage the reader’s imagination.
  • Continue Chapter 8: Understanding Fractions in Math. 
  • Continue Chapter 10: The Church Prays in Religion.
  • Apply our knowledge of ecosystems to better understand the history of the Galapagos Islands in Science.

  • Develop our understanding of the author’s craft by analyzing the setting descriptions and the characters’ thoughts and feelings while reading Peter Pan.
  • Continue Chapter 8: Understanding Fractions in Math. 
  • Complete Chapter 9: The Church Teaches Us in Religion.
  • Celebrate Earth Day and continue learning about Ecosystems in Science.

  • Reading: Peter Pan – Study images and quotes from Peter Pan (in Materials section of Google Classroom). Make an illustration of what you imagine based on your favorite quote from the chart. Send an image of your work.
  • Reread the passage describing Neverland (this was from the first chapter). Tomorrow, you will write about your own Neverland.
  • Math: Meet on Zoom at 1:30 pm with Go Math 2 and the Reteach/Enrich WS’s from the previous week’s assignments (if you printed them).
  • We will go over the steps needed to solve the fraction problems that were assigned before the break. The Reteach/Enrich WS’s are pages 3-4 in packet (file is on Google Classroom). They are labeled as 8-7 and 8-8 at the bottom of the pages. In Go Math, we will go over 8.2 Equal Shares, pages 451 (skip #8), 453 and 454 (#1 and 2 only).
  • Religion: Review pages 107-117 to prepare for the upcoming quiz on Chapter 9 (Wednesday).
  • Science: Earth Day Week: Watch video on Rachel Carson and read through information below the video: Link on Google Classroom. Tomorrow, we’re going to talk about Rachel Carson and discuss how we can improve the environment (on Zoom). Write down any ideas that you’d like to share tomorrow.

  • Science: Cleaning Up the Plastic Beach – Watch video about plastic. Go to website and scroll down until you find the picture of the the bird covered in plastic. Begin reading after the photo of the bird. Read through the information and questions about plastic use. Answer questions in writing and send images of your work. Stop reading when you finish the summary portion. All links on Google Classroom.

Thursday 4/23:

*Zoom Meeting at 1:30 pm: Math (WS’s from Wed.)

  • Vocabulary: Completing the Sentence, page 136. Send an image of your work.
  • Grammar: Proofreading, page 194. Send an image of your work.
  • Reading: Peter Pan – Read Chapter 11. As you’re reading, look for phrases or words that describe the characters’ thoughts and feelings. Jot down notes as you read. Include the character’s name and the exact words or phrases from the book that describe their thoughts/feelings. If we did this in class, we’d use post-it notes like we have in the past. You can use post-it notes if you have them or just write on paper. Either way, you don’t need to write much more than you could fit on 1-2 post-it notes for each. Try to find a few different examples throughout the chapter.
  • Math: 8.3 Unit Fractions of a Whole, complete pages 456-457 together on Zoom. Review last night’s HW as needed. Send images of your work.
  • Religion: Complete quiz on Chapter 9 on page 118. Please look through pages 107-117 to check your answers before sending your work.
  • Science: Look closely at illustrations and instructions on the recycling guides from NYC Sanitation Department (on Google Classroom in the Materials section). There is a separate chart for Metal, Glass, Plastic, Cartons and Paper. Based on the reference information, come up with a few examples of items that would be recyclable for Metal, Glass, Plastic, Cartons and for Paper. Write down your ideas and send an image of your work.

  • Grammar: Begin test on Unit 5: Pronouns. Submit through Google Classroom or email images by the end of the break (Monday, 4/20).
  • Reading:  Complete quiz on Peter Pan Ch. 6-9. Submit through Google Classroom or email images by Thursday, 4/9. 
  • Math: 8.2 Equal Shares, pages 451 (skip #8), 453 and 454 (#1 and 2 only). Send images of your work.
  • Religion: Read through messages on Holy Week Medallions. Print out and color (it’s ok to skip this step if you can’t print). On the Medallion with lines (or lined paper), write about your own Easter prayers (planning to talk about this on Monday during Zoom meeting).

Over the Break:

  • Finish Grammar test. Submit when you’re finished or by the end of the break.
  • Color all Holy Week Medallions (optional).
