Grade 3: Week of 6/15-6/19

This week, the third grade will…

  • Complete all final assignments and projects by Monday, 6/15.
  • Review Grammar lessons on Capitalization, Punctuation and Parts of Speech.
  • Read poetry about summer and create an illustration in response.
  • Reflect on your learning and view classmates’ projects.
  • Complete your third grade year 🙂

Graded Assignments:

  • Please submit all graded work by Monday, 6/15

Monday 6/15:

*Zoom Meeting at 1:30 pm: Grammar, Math

  • Work on any remaining graded assignments and send images of your work tonight.
  • Grammar: Review Unit 6 and Parts of Speech on Zoom today.
  • Reading: Read a few poems from the Summer Poems material file (on Google Classroom under ELA). Tomorrow, you will finish reading the poems and create an illustration inspired by a poem of your choice (from the selections).
  • Math: Review Perimeter/Area problems on Zoom.
  • Religion: View your classmates’ final projects (under Religion on Google Classroom). Read about a symbol other than the symbol that you’ve already researched and find 1-2 sentences that summarize its meaning. Send an image of your work.

Tuesday 6/16:

*Zoom Meeting at 1:30 pm: Reading

  • Reading: Read Dear Children of the Earth by Schim Schimmel together on Zoom.
  • Finish reading summer poems and choose one to illustrate. Your illustration doesn’t need to show everything in the poem. I’d recommend focusing on certain words or phrases that spark your imagination. Send an image of your work.
  • Social Studies: View your classmates’ Country Study Research Reports (on Google Classroom under Social Studies) and choose one that you’d like to read. Read thoroughly and write down 2 facts that you learned. Send an image of your work.
  • Complete Quotations practice WS’s on Google Classroom under ELA.
  • Answer the following questions:
  1. What did you enjoy learning about this year?
  2. What was the hardest part of distance learning? Be specific.
  3. What have you done that you are most proud of this year?

Send an image of your answers.

Wednesday 6/17- Thursday 6/18:

  • Complete activities online with the Diocese of Brooklyn.

Friday 6/19: Last day!

Grade 3: Week of 6/1-6/5

This week, the third grade will…

  • Complete Vocabulary Workshop Unit 15 and Grammar Unit 6: Capitalization, Punctuation and Spelling.
  • Begin gathering evidence to support an opinion in Reading.
  • Complete our study of Perimeter and Area in Math.
  • Begin Chapter 12: God Calls Us to Holiness in Religion.
  • Discuss the impact of deforestation in Science and review map skills in Social Studies.

*Please write your name, date and subject on the top of all of your work.

Please submit classwork to jfrey@olgcahb.org by 6 pm on the dates listed below. You can submit assignments by sending images of your workbook/writing or typing into the body of the email if preferred (when possible). If an assignment is posted to Google Classroom, you can also mark your answers and submit directly.

Tentative Graded Assignments:

  • Math: Blueprint Project – Your rooms – Due Tuesday, 6/2, Calculations for a classmate’s room – Due Friday, 6/5
  • Complete any remaining projects from last week: Writing Assignment on France and the Parish Symbols Assignment

Monday 6/1:

*Zoom Meeting at 1:30 pm: Math, Religion, Social Studies

  • Vocabulary: Match the Meaning, page 154. Send an image of your work. *Match the Meaning and Completing the Sentence will count toward a graded assignment for Unit 15. Check all answers before sending.
  • Reading: Read “Deforestation” on page 4 of the Reading/Comprehension passages file on Google Classroom. Complete the graphic organizer on the right side of the page. Send an image of your work. *Keep this WS for next week. We will use it for your ELA final project.
  • Math: Complete Area/Perimeter Blueprint project and send an image of your work (you will begin calculating a friend’s rooms on Wednesday). We will begin working on the review packet on Zoom if time allows.        
  • Religion: Complete Chapter 11: Open-Book Quiz on page 142 and send an image of your work. We will discuss Pentecost on Zoom. Try the following crafts and activities at home if you have the materials needed (optional): Link on Google Classroom.
  • Social Studies: Review map skills and discuss activity on Zoom.

Tuesday 6/2:

*Zoom Meeting at 1:30 pm: Reading (bring The Great Kapok Tree WS)

  • Vocabulary: Completing the Sentence, page 156. Send an image of your work. *Match the Meaning and Completing the Sentence will count toward a graded assignment for Unit 15. Check all answers before sending.
  • Reading: Bring the WS on The Great Kapok Tree to the Zoom meeting. We will read this together and fill out the WS today and tomorrow. *Keep this WS for next week. We will use it for your ELA final project.
  • Math: Submit Area/Perimeter Blueprint project by tonight. Experiment with the homestyler website to build a room and add some features and furniture (you don’t have to complete anything).
  • Religion: Read God Calls Each of Us, pages 144-145. Highlight or underline key details.
  • Social Studies: Continue working on your map. You will have until next Monday to work on this and send an image of your work.

Wednesday 6/3:

*Zoom Meeting at 1:30 pm: Reading (bring The Great Kapok Tree WS)

  • Grammar: Review lessons on pages 188-215 to prepare for the open-book assignment.
  • Reading: Bring the WS on The Great Kapok Tree to the Zoom meeting. We will read this together and fill out the WS today and tomorrow. *Keep this WS for next week. We will use it for your ELA final project.
  • Math: Select a classmate’s blueprint and calculate the area/perimeter for their rooms. This is part of your project grade, so calculate your answers carefully and send an image of your work by Friday, 6/5.
  • Religion: Read God Calls Everyone to Be Holy, pages 146-147. Highlight or underline key details, complete We Respond and send an image of your work.
  • Science: Watch the Lorax video and fill out corresponding WS’s on Google Classroom. The video is about 25 minutes and it will pause when it’s time to complete the questions. You can complete this anytime between today and Friday (send images of the WS’s by Friday).
  • Social Studies: Continue working on your map. You will have until next Monday to complete.

Thursday 6/4:

*Zoom Meeting at 1:30 pm: Math (bring review packet), Reading (bring Deforestation Debate WS)

  • Reading: Read Deforestation Debate WS (on Google Classroom) and discuss on Zoom today. If we do not finish together, make sure you finish reading on your own. Draw a star next to 3 of the points that you would consider using in your writing next week.
  • Grammar: Complete page 228 (only) from the Unit 6 Review. This will count toward an open-book assignment for this unit, so check all answers before sending an image of your work.
  • Math: Begin review packet (on Google Classroom) on Zoom as a class.
  • Religion: Read God Calls Some Men to Be Priests or Deacons, pages 148-149. Highlight or underline key details, complete We Respond and send an image of your work.
  • Science: Watch the Lorax video and fill out corresponding WS’s on Google Classroom. The video is about 25 minutes and it will pause when it’s time to complete the questions. You can complete this anytime between today and Friday, just send the WS’s by Friday.

Friday 6/5:

*No Zoom Meeting today

Due today –

Math: Send an image of your calculations for your classmate’s blueprint.

Science: Send images of your WS’s from the Lorax activity.

  • Math: Continue review packet and show your work. Page numbers will be determined after Thursday’s meeting. Send an image of your work.
  • Religion: Read God Calls Some People to Religious Life, pages 150-151. Highlight or underline key details and complete We Respond. Also, complete Project Disciple on pages 152-153 and send an image of your work. Study the readings from Chapter 12 to prepare for the open-book quiz next Monday.
  • Social Studies: Complete your map by Monday, 6/8.
