Grade 3: Week of 10/15-10/18

  • This week, the third grade will be taking the standardized Terra Nova exam.  Please be sure to read over the Terra Nova tips and strategies so that your child is prepared each testing day this week (as well as Monday, October 21st).
  • Homework will be light this week. The Religion book will be sent home by Friday, 10/18 in preparation for our Chapter 2 Test on Tuesday, 10/22. 
  • In addition to the Terra Nova testing, the third grade will:
    • Continue working on Sequencing activities using Reading Street supplemental resources.
    • Complete Grammar, Unit 2: Nouns and begin reviewing with writing activities in our workbook.
    • Begin Religion, Chapter 3: 
    • Read and explore our October Issue of Storyworks Jr. with an article, “Our Beautiful Town is Gone!” and a play, “Jack and the Beanstalk.”
    • Be introduced to our upcoming, in-class Religion project for All Saints Day.

Terra Nova Testing Schedule:

  • Tuesday, October 15th: InView Test (Sequences, Analogies, Quantitative Reasoning, Verbal Reasoning [Words & Context)
  • Wednesday, October 16th: Common Core Multiple Assessments: Level 13, Reading (Parts 1-4)
  • Thursday, October 17th: Common Core Multiple Assessments: Level 13, Language (Parts 1 & 2)
  • Friday, October 18th: Common Core Multiple Assessments: Level 13, Mathematics (Parts 1-3)
  • Monday, October 21st: Common Core Multiple Assessments: Level 13, Word Analysis (Vocabulary, Language Mechanics, Spelling, Mathematics Computation)

Homework for the week:

Tuesday: 

  • Reading: Read “Makoto’s Garden” and answer questions #1-4 on the back. Please be sure to write in complete sentences for #4.

Wednesday: 

  • Reading: Read “Basketball Practice” and answer questions #1-5 on the back. Please be sure to write in complete sentences for #4-5.

Thursday:

  • Reading: Read “Hot Dog Wraps” and answer questions #1-5 on the back. Please be sure to write in complete sentences for #5.
  • Religion: All Saints Day Packets will be sent home. Please look this over and send them back in by Monday, 10/21. In addition, read over the suggested materials and also bring those in by Monday, 10/21.

Friday:

  • Study Religion, Chapter 2 in preparation for our upcoming test on Tuesday, October 22nd. Please keep the workbook home to study from (it can be returned to school on Tuesday, October 22nd).
  • All Saints Day Packets have been sent home. Please look this over and send them back in by Monday, 10/21. In addition, read over the suggested materials and also bring those in by Monday, 10/21.
  • **Sign and correct all returned tests/quizzes by Monday, 10/21 if you have not already done so. Corrections should be done on a separate sheet of paper stapled to the back of the test/quiz and each question should be clearly labeled with the section and number.**

Grade 3: Week of 10/7-10/11

This week, the third grade will…

  • Begin Spelling Unit 3 (using, getting, easiest, swimming, heavier, greatest, pleased, emptied, leaving, worried, strangest, freezing, funniest, angrier, shopped)
  • Continue with Grammar, Unit 2: Nouns, Lessons 10-13.
  • Continue strengthening our reading comprehension sequence skills using Reading Street and its supplemental resources.
  • Continue with Religion, Chapter 2, and prepare for our test.
  • Continue with Math, Chapter 3: Understand Multiplication and prepare for our first Chapter test.
  • Finalize our Social Studies: “My Community” Projects.
  • Participate in OLGCA’s Rosary Rally and utilize our Rosary Booklets for assistance and guidance.
  • Complete a Math Performance Task to wrap up Chapter 3.

  • Spelling, Unit 3 Quiz- Friday, 10/11

  • Reading- Complete the Sequence activity worksheet, page 27.

Math- Log onto ThinkCentral and complete the posted assignment.


Tuesday:

ELA-

  • Spelling- Write sentences for words #1-5 of Spelling Unit 3. *Be sure to use words #1-5 of our ABC ordered list.*
  • Grammar- Fill in the blanks on page 54 of Lesson 11.
  • Reading- Complete the Vocabulary activity worksheet, page 25.

Math- Log onto ThinkCentral and complete the posted assignment.


Wednesday:

ELA-

  • Spelling- Write sentences for words #6-10 of Spelling Unit 3. *Be sure to use words #6-10 of our ABC ordered list.*
  • Grammar- Complete the activity on plurals on page 58 of Lesson 12.
  • Reading- Draw Conclusions on the Reading Street sequence worksheet, page 26.

Math- Study for your Chapter 3 Math Test. *The test will look very similar to our Chapter 3 Review in the workbook.*


Thursday:

ELA-

  • Spelling- Write the Unit 3 Spelling Words 3x each and study for our Unit 3 Spelling Quiz.
  • Grammar- Complete the Proofreading exercise on page 62 of Lesson 13.
  • Reading- Complete the “Skim and Scan” sequence worksheet, page 30.

*Please cover your Science Workbook with contact paper by Tuesday, 10/15.*


Friday:

  • Continue with Math, Chapter 3: Understand Multiplication with Lessons 3.5-3.7.
  • Begin a Social Studies project: My Community.
  • Begin Religion, Chapter 2: Jesus Teaches Us About God’s Love.

  • Begin Spelling Unit 2 (pennies, inches, plants, families, bodies, glasses, wishes, pockets, lists, copies, parties, bunches, crashes, supplies, pencils; Challenge Words: accidents, libraries, mysteries, carpenters, merchants)
  • Continue with Unit 1: Sentences and begin to review all eight lessons.
  • Continue working in the NY Ready Book with Lessons 2 and 3 and practicing Informational Text.
  • Complete Math Chapter 3 through Lesson 3.3 and prepare for a Mid-Chapter Quiz.
  • Review Social Studies Chapter 1 and prepare for our first chapter test.
  • Work on our Rosary Booklet projects in preparation for OLGCA’s Rosary Rally.
