2nd Grade: Week of 2/11-2/15

Week at a Glance:

ELA- a) Superkids: Use memory words to match to definitions, sequencing tells when things happen, fix mistakes in sentences using correct punctuation and capitalization and abbreviation is a short way to write a word

            b) Reading: practice reading comprehension by looking back into the text to find the answer

            c) Spelling: notice, bare, famous, search, gentle, hero, feast, weak, agree, leader 

Math- Solve problems involving 2-digit addition using the strategy draw a diagram, complete Ch.4 Quiz and represent addition situations with number sentences using a symbol for the unknown number.

S.S.- Describe how weather patterns/ natural resources/seasonal patterns/natural hazards affect activities and settlement patterns, recognize that maps can be different sizes and identify ways people conserve and replenish natural resources. 

Science- Review for Ch.2 Unit B test, Complete Ch.2 test, Introduce Ch.1 Unit C and recognize & describe different kinds of rocks and soil. 

Religion- To show that Jesus invites us to celebrate God’s forgiveness, To present that Jesus shares God’s forgiveness and peac in the sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation, and to introduce a examination of conscience.

ELA- a) Superkids: compound words and soft g and soft c

            b) Vocabulary Unit 6

Math- Practice 2-digit Addition with and without regrouping, rewrite horizontal addition problems vertically in the standard algorithm format and solve problems involving 2-digit addition using the strategy draw a diagram. 

S.S.- Review landforms/continents/4 bodies of water, categorize information/identify parts of a table and explain how science and technology have changed the ways in which people meet basic needs

Science- Review what it means to Reduce,Reuse and Recycle and discuss different types of pollution 

Religion- Review Ch.9 and take Test

            b) Grammar: Adverbs and Adjectives 

            c) Writing: Author’s Purpose (Informative) 

Math- Model 2-digit addition with regrouping, draw quick pictures and record 2-digit addition using the standard algorithm and record 2-digit addition using the standard algorithm

S.S.- review landforms/continents/4 bodies of water and explain how people depend on the physical environment and it’s natural resources to satisfy their basic needs.

Science- identify ways to keep the environment clean, match the trash to the correct garbage cans and identify different forms of pollution by watching a movie.”

Religion- Introduce the first three commandments and  introduce the fourth through tenth Commandments

Week at a Glance:

ELA- a) Superkids: review homonyms to complete sentences, understand that when you see quotation marks it usually means someone is talking and letters -ew sound like long -oo like in “blew” “new” or “chew”.

            b) Spelling: island, chew, bright, forest, nibble, inn, warn, flour, hour, pale

Math- Introduce Chapter 4, fins the sum by breaking apart a 1-digit addends to make a 2-digit addends a multiple of 10, use compensation to develop flexible thinking for 2-digit addition and apply place value concepts when using a break-apart strategy for 2-digit addition. 

S.S.- Find locations and determine directions on maps and globes

Science- Identify the three main types of pollution, describe ways pollution can harm plans and animals and identify ways to keep the environment clean 

Religion- To explain that Jesus taught us the Great Commandment and to point out ways that the Ten Commandments help us to live as God’s children.
