2nd Grade: Week of 4/15-4/19

Week at a Glance:

ELA- Superkids: Encode that a comma goes between the day & the year and a greeting & closing.You also put the date at the top of a letter, encode that “because” means why, encode that sometimes a vowel sounds like “u”  but spelled with a different letter, the memory words describe positions where things are located and encode that when two words are put together with an apostrophe it is called a contraction. 

Math- Review and take Chapter 5 Test. 

Science- Identify characteristics of the sun and describe how the Earth orbits the sun. 

S.S.: Students have been helping the Earth by recycling water bottles daily in class. The money we recieved from recycling will be used to celebrate Earth Day!

Chapter 4: Appreciate the value of learning from family memeber and identify the parts of a bar graph. 

Religion- Chapter 19: Explain that Jesus is with the Church as we share God’s love.

2nd Grade: Week of 4/8-4/12

Week at a Glance:

ELA- Superkids: Encode that letters f,l and s are often doubled at the end of a word after a short vowel, encode that the suffix-ful means “ful of”, remember nouns and verbs-pick them out in sentences and encode the suffix -able means “can be”       

            b) Grammar: Prepositions 

            c) Writing: Poems

Math- Chapter 5: Analyze word problems to determine what operations to use to solve multistep problems and review Lessons 1-11.

Science- Students will pretend they are paleontologist by going on an Easter egg hunt in the classroom and breaking open the egg carefully to find a “fossil” (paper), the part of a dinosaur part-the students will then put the pieces of the dinosaur together to reconstruct the skeleton and Introduce Ch.1 Unit D “The Sun,the Moon, and Stars”.

S.S.: Chapter 4: Find locations and determine directions on maps and recognize that every family has its own heritage. 

Religion- Chapter 18: Review and take test.

Week at a Glance:

ELA- Superkids: encode that -tion is pronounced -shun, sometimes ph and gh sound like “f”, other words can be used instead of “said” to tell you how a person spoke and encode that you must know the meaning of a homonym to spell the word correctly

            b) Spelling: smooth, frighten, herd, prove, seal, pack, enemy, steady, dive, soar

            c) Writing: Poems

Math- Chapter 5: Represent subtraction situations with number sentences using a symbol for the unknown number and analyze word problems to determine what operations to use to solve multistep problem.

Science- Review and Take Ch.2 Unit C Test 

S.S.: Chapter 4: Recognize that people have different points of view and recognize how explorers led the way settlement in new places 

Religion- Chapter 18: To teach that we receive the Body and Blood of Christ in Holy Communion and to review the chapter ideas that are key to growing as disciples of Jesus Christ

Week at a Glance:

ELA- Superkids: understand that the vowels in the pattern words look like it could be short but they are long, encode that a suffix is added to the end of a word to change its meaning, read a passage and edit using specific marks and encode that a smilie compares two things using like or as. 

            b) Vocabulary: Unit 8

Math- Rewrite horizontal subtraction problems vertically in the stand algorithm format, use addition to find differences and solve problems involving 2-digit subtraction by using the strategy draw a diagram.

Science-Describe what scientists have learned about dinosaurs.

S.S.: Review and complete Ch. 3 Test, obtain information about a topic using a variety of visual sources and explore the diversity of the United States. 

Religion- To explain the meaning of offering of the gifts of bread and wine in the Litergury of the Eucharist, to introduce the Eucharistic Prayer as the Church’s great prayer of thanks & praise and to present the Our Father,sign of peace and the Lamb of God.
