2nd Grade: Week of 10/15-10/18

Week at a Glance:

ELA– a) Superkids: Encode that when a vowel is alone at the end of a word it is long and when a vowel is followed by a constonant the vowel is short, encode that when two vowels go walking- the first one does the talking, use memory words to complete the crossword puzzle and read the lunch menu and mark short, long and silent vowels. 

           b) Vocabulary: Unit 2

Math– Chapter 2: Identify 10 more, 10 less, 100 more or 100 less than a given number, extend numbers patterns by counting on by tens and hundreds and solve problems involving number comparisons by using the strategy make a model. 

Science– 

S.S.- Chapter 1: work on community project in groups 

Religion- Chapter 3: to teach that we belong to the Catholic Church, to present that prayer and worship are ways that Catholics celebrate God’s love and to introduce that the Church celebrates with seven special signs called sacraments.

Week at a Glance:

ELA– a) Superkids: encode that some words can be a noun and a verb, encode that words that rhyme sound alike at the end, answer questions based on stories in reader and encode that when a vowel is alone at the end of a word, it is long and says its name. 

           b) Grammar: Collective Nouns 

           c) Reading: guided reading groups

Math– Chapter 2: Review lessons 1-6 and take quiz. Write 3-digit numbers in Expanded form and in standard form and apply place value concepts to find equivalent numbers. 

Science–

2nd Grade: Week of 9/30-10/4

Week at a Glance:

ELA– a) Superkids: encode that sometimes homonyms sound alike but are spelled differently, encode that when -le is at the end of a word; the -e is silent, use memory words to complete sentences, encode that short vowels are followed by two consonants when -le is at the end of a word and encode that nouns name people, places and things and verbs are action words. 

           b) Spelling:  evening, present, branch, greedy, wise, trail, brave, dash, stream, pass

           c) Reading: guided reading groups

Math– Chapter 2: Use concrete and pictorial models to represent 3-digit numbers, apply place value concepts to write 3-digit numbers that are represented by pictorial models, use place value to describe the values of digits in numbers to 1,000, and read/write 3-digit numbers in word form.

Science– Review and complete Chapter 1 Test.

Religion- to review chaper ideas that are key to growing as disciples,

2nd Grade: Week of 9/23-9/27

Week at a Glance:

ELA– a) Superkids: encode that to make the -th sound put your tongue in between your teeth, use memory words to help fill in the sentences provided, encode that a statement has a period; question has a question mark and shouting/excitement has a exclamation mark, encode that when two words are put together in a contraction; an apostrophe takes the place of the missing letter and encode that homonyms are words that sound alike but have different meanings 

           b) Vocabulary Unit 1

Math– Review and complete Chapter 1 test. Chapter 2: Numbers to 1,000. Understand that each group of 10 tens is equivalent to 1 hundred and write 3-digit numbers that are represented by groups of tens. 

Science– Chapter 1: observe plants to determine how they are alike and different and continue discussing the parts of a plant and what each part needs to continue to live. 

S.S.-

Religion- To emphasize that Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to help us, to highlight that the Holy Spirit helps the church to grow and to review chaper ideas that are key to growing as disciples.
